Dylan is 2 weeks old today!

Dylan is 2 weeks old today and has been adjusting well to life at home. He is awake and happy most of the morning...from about 8am to noon or so and then sleeps most of the afternoon. We have him on a pretty good schedule at night...at least where Matt and I can get some sleep in between feedings. He is eating well, and growing like a weed. He had his 2 week check up today. He has grown an inch and a quarter...up to 22 and 3/4" and is up to 9lbs (still not hit mommy's birth weight...but it won't be long!). His personality is coming out day by day...he loves to be held and snuggled...as long as you are moving...sit down and he will let you know! Oddly enough...he hates having his diaper changed...apparently a modest boy! Here are a few pictures from his first few days at home!

We will keep you all updated on Dylan's progress! I will update with pictures of his first Christmas soon!

Labor Day!

The doctor decided to induce me on my due date, December 15th, 2008, as he was afraid the baby would be too big if we waited past that. So at 5am on December 15th Matt and I had an appointment at the hospital to begin the whole process. I had been given advice to eat before we went because after I got there...ice chips would be it! So Matt and I got up extra early and headed to IHOP to have some breakfast before we headed to the hospital. This picture was taken hours before we left...this is me at 40 weeks! Ready to pop!

After we got there, I got hooked up to all the machines and they started pumping me full of fluid to stay hydrated. Around 7:30 my doctor came up to make sure I had started making good progress. He broke my water and then we played the waiting game.

Here we are a few hours into the process...by this time I had my epidural so I was feeling pretty good. I labored for a while without it, but after thinking about the possibility of having a C-section, I decided to get it just in case. That way I wouldn't have to have been put completely under in order for the doctor to get the baby out. Dylan was belly up instead of back up right up until about an hour before I delivered. Luckily I had a FANTASTIC labor and delivery nurse that was able to work with me to get him turned before I started pushing...saving me from having to have a C-section!

Finally at 6:29pm, after 12 hours of labor, Dylan James Mize made his appearance weighing in at 8lbs. 10oz. and was 21 inches long! I have to admit...I was shocked it was a boy. After about week 8 or 9 of my pregnancy I had convinced myself that it was a girl. Never a better surprise! Matt and I have been loving every minute we have spent with him and can't wait to see what happens with each day.

What a face! The outside world is so much different than where I was!

FINALLY! I know I am horrible at this!

So...I finally have time to post a bit...I know it has been WAY too long! I am hoping after the baby is born...while I know I won't have more time!!!...I will have a lot more information to share. My pregnancy has been pretty boring and other than the baby... and myself growing larger and larger...nothing much has changed. According to the doctor...the baby has decided that he or she is more than happy spending their time where they are, and are making no progress toward joining the world. I will be back at the doctor next Thursday to get an update on the baby's progress. Two weeks ago the doctor estimated the baby's weight at approximately 6 pounds...assuming the normal 1/2 pound weekly weight gain...we are looking at approximately 8 pounds if I go all they way to my due date...and from my appointment yesterday...I am pretty sure I will be going all they way!

Here I am at 38 weeks!

It has been WAY TOO long!!!

I will start off by apologizing for taking so long to post! I started school the end of August and have been very busy with that. I am taking two classes this semester...hoping baby holds out until after finals! I have arranged to take both of my finals early. I just pray I make it to the 12th of December before Baby Mize decides to make his/her appearance!

Lots of things have happened since my last post. Going back to school meant the beginning of the TCU football season. Our best friends graduated from TCU and are very big into tailgating. Jay is a master griller and always provides excellent food for us to feast on! So far this season we are 4-0 so things are starting out very well. Our next game will be a bit difficult...we play OU, but hopefully the Frogs can pull out another victory!

Matt and I also took an extended weekend trip to Cancun, Mexico with our best friends Jay and RuthAnn (Rudy). It was a wonderfully relaxing weekend full of sun! Matt, Jay and Rudy rented wave runners for about 30 minutes and cruised around on the ocean for a while. Positive my doctor would not be too happy with me if I participated in water sports...I stayed on the beach and read a book. Make no mistake...I was perfectly content under my umbrella with my book! I was looking forward to relaxing and that is exactly what we did all weekend! It was a nice little break before Baby Mize arrives. It will likely be a while before Matt and I head off on another tropical vacation. Unfortunately, I am now peeling and believe I have a bit of sun poisoning...my fair skin apparently had enough sun!

Now...for an update on the pregnancy...
I am now in my 28th week of pregnancy and things are still going really well. Baby Mize is growing as he or she should and Matt and I...or Matt I should say is making tons of preparations around the house. The baby's room was a lovely shade of grass green and it is taking quite a bit of work to cover it up! Other than that, things have been pretty uneventful pregnancy wise. According to my doctor, that is a good thing! Here is a picture of me at 28 weeks. My belly button is already starting to pop...with 12 weeks left, I am a little nervous what is going to happen to it!

We have made it through the first 23 weeks of pregnancy and things are still going really well. The baby continues to grow and the kicks get stronger by the day! Yesterday at work the baby kicked so hard I nearly jumped out of my chair! I thought someone was trying to grab me! Pretty silly I know!

Matt finally got to feel the baby kick!! He was so excited. We were laying in bed reading on Sunday night (August 10th) and the baby was being particularly active. I grabbed Matt's hand and put it on my belly and finally the baby kicked so daddy could feel it! Of course after that it was hard to get Matt's hand off my belly! He got to feel baby a few more times before we went to bed. I am pretty sure Matt slept really well that night after having his first of many interactions with Baby Mize.

Last Saturday we took Scooter to his/her first concert (DAVE MATTHEWS BAND)! Surprisingly, the baby was very quiet. I have to admit I was a little surprised with all the noise I thought for sure I would feel quite a few kicks. I guess he/she is not nearly the fan mommy is!

Half Way There!!!

So we have finally hit the half way point...more behind us than ahead of us! Although I have to admit it has made me go a little crazy! I was washing dishes the other day and started to freak out about all the things we have to do before Baby Mize arrives...all stemming from washing some baby dishes my sister gave me and not having a place to put them! Matt has been so wonderful and supportive through the whole thing...he sat down with me and made a list of everything we want to accomplish before December 15th!

Things are still going really well with the pregnancy. I am feeling the baby move more and more each day! Always seems to be after I eat! I keep trying to get Matt to feel it, but seems every time the baby is moving and I have Matt put his hand on my belly...the baby stops moving! Hopefully soon he will get to experience such a wonderful feeling!

Here is a picutre of my belly at 21 weeks! Seems to be getting bigger by the day!

At our appointment today the doctor said things were progressing well. We got to see the baby's head, feet, hands, spine and even a femur! It amazes me each time how much the baby is growing and changing. Today we got a picture of the baby's face. Seems he or she wanted us to see just how cute they are! If you look closely you can see the eye socket (black dot on the top center of the head), nose and chin. Matt was trying to check for a cleft, but I think we will have to wait till Baby Mize joins the world to see if that trait was passed on from daddy! I sure hope it was!

Update

Things are still going really well with the pregnancy. At our last appointment, the doctor told me I was having a pretty boring pregnancy...but that it was a good thing. The baby...and I...are growing as we should. We had another sonogram...but sadly this time we didn't get a picture! I have another appointment the beginning of August so I will definitely be asking for a new picture then.

Here is the most recent picture of me...a little hard to see my tummy with my over sized t-shirt...but it is definitely there.

Here is a better shot of the growing belly...this is me at 18 weeks and 5 days:

I have moved almost completely to maternity clothes...they are just so much more comfortable...I am still a little too small for them...but something tells me it won't be long!

Wedding Weekend ~ July 4th-July 6th

The Hommerding-Murtagh Wedding Extravaganza started with Molly, Katie and I mixing up batch after batch of cookies for wedding favors. Katie and I helped mix, but we left the baking up to Molly. She baked on the 4th of July for something like 9 hours! They all turned out FANTASTIC and her jars of cookies looked fantastic on the favor table at the reception.

While Molly baked, the rest of the family...and there were a lot of us... hung out by the pool in the sun all day! It was a blast watching the kids run around coming up with all different types of games to play. At one point the volleyball net came out, but after a few games sadly it was broken!
The following day was the big wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony and the reception was a blast. Katie and I had a hard time at the ceremony, but we made it through the reception...well, mostly!

The day after the wedding was packed with more fun in the sun by the pool! And more excellent grilling by my father! I think the grill was always going...I think the only breaks my dad got were quick dips in the pool to cool off! I am not sure how much food we went through, but with the amount of people there...I know it was A LOT!

It was a wonderful weekend with lots of family and fun! We were sad it was over, but so happy for Mark and Molly! And as sad as it was, it was nice to get back to our normal routine. Congrats you two! We love y'all very much!

Welcome!!

We decided since our family is growing, we would create this blog to keep our family and friends near and far posted on what is happening. Here is our little Scooter at 13 weeks and 3 days. We are so excited and cannot wait to welcome Baby Mize into the world. We are due December 15th! This will be the best Christmas ever!

For those of you who are wondering, we are not finding out if we are having a boy or a girl. We decided to keep that a surprise for the day Baby Mize decides to join the world. So far things have been going great. I have not felt sick and have been able to eat most everything. Oddly, brushing my teeth gives me quite the struggle every morning and evening.
