8 Weeks Old Today!

Dylan is 8 weeks old today! He is growing like a weed. We went to the doctor today for his 2 month check up. Dylan weighs in at 12lbs 6oz and is 24.5 inches long! The doctor said he was doing great and growing just like he should. All in all it was a great check up...until the shots that is. He took them like a champ. Although when we got home, I fed him and he went down for a nap and slept for 3 hours.

Dylan recently found his fingers and prefers to suck on those versus a pacifier. I usually hear him sucking in the morning over the monitor just before he wakes him up.

Dylan loves to snuggle...that will put him to sleep faster than anything. Just give him a shoulder and 5 minutes to snuggle in and he is out.

He loves to be outside too! One of the benefits of living in Texas I guess...it is 70+ degrees in February.

Daisy is finally starting to get used to Dylan being around. She is starting to interact with him a lot more...she may regret that when he gets older. I am sure that he will torment her and play with her more than she would like!

And now for Mommy and Daddy's favorite new thing...the SMILES! He is now starting to smile at us...not just because he has gas. He is talking up a storm too! His personality is really starting to develop.

THANK YOU GREAT AUNT PRUDY!!!

A few days ago Dylan received a package from his Great Aunt Prudy! Inside was the most beautiful quilt hand made special for Dylan! We are so excited for him to get old enough to use it! It is soft flannel and will definitely keep Dylan warm while he is sleeping...or just hanging out with mom and dad!

Thank you Aunt Prudy! Mom was jealous...she was 25 before she got hers! I got mine at 10 days old! I love you...and can't wait to meet you! ~Dylan

Happy New Year!

We rang in the New Year with Mark and Molly...well almost! Mark and Molly planned on fondueing and invited the three of us to join them. They had a wonderful spread and three courses...cheese, meat and veggies, and my personal favorite dessert! Everything was great and we had a great time! We made it to 11pm, watched the ball drop in New York and celebrated the New Year on eastern time. By that time Dylan was ready...and so were mommy and daddy to head home and get some rest. We had a wonderful time...maybe next year we will make it to midnight central time!

The hosts...Aunt Molly and Uncle Mark!

The spread! This was the meat and veggie portion! It was all really good...and we only almost burnt the place down! Yes, the oil got a little too hot and we had to open a window and turn on a fan to prevent the smoke detectors from going off...

Daddy and Dylan...the little bit he was awake that night! As usual, he slept through most of the festivities!

Mommy and Dylan just hanging out! Aunt Molly picked out my outfit!

Dylan's First Christmas

With Dylan being born in December, he experienced his first Christmas at the ripe old age of .... 10 days old! Not only was it his first Christmas, but on Christmas Eve we gave him his first bath. His belly button had fallen off a few days before and we thought we would try a bath for not only his first mass...but his first Christmas mass.

As you can see...the first bath was not much of a success. Dylan is not a big fan of being undressed so as soon as we got him ready for the bath...he was crying before we even put him in the water. It went down hill from there... needless to say, I moved as fast as I could and got him out and dried off as quickly as possible!

After we got him wrapped up in his towel, he calmed down...as you can see from his cheeks, he was pretty worked up! We tried a bath again a few days later and it went much better...I think he decided it wasn't really that bad. Daddy even got video of the first bath, but all you can hear is Dylan screaming...poor little guy!

On Christmas Day we went over to Grandma and Grandpa Hommerding's to spend the day with the family. For a first Christmas...Dylan received some wonderful gifts. His Godparents purchased his first item from Tiffany! It took mommy until she was 29 to get a blue Tiffany box...but Dylan got his at 10 days old! Mark and Molly got him a beautiful silver rattle that we were instructed he better get to play with! Uncle Mark does not want it to sit on a shelf or in a box!

And of course, Grandpa passed a tradition we have in our family on to Dylan. He received a book with $100 in it...that goes directly into his savings account!

The rest of the day was spent just hanging out and enjoying a little family time. It was really nice to have such a perfect Christmas! We had a great day filled with lots of laughter and lots of fun! We can't wait for Christmas next year!!

Just a little nap with dad!

Grandpa and Aunt Molly playing Wii bowling...I am pretty sure Grandpa lost!

Dylan and Grandpa just hanging out! Dylan got to spend a lot of quality time with Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Katie, Aunt Molly and Uncle Mark on Christmas. We need to enjoy the snuggling this year...because next year I am sure he will be on the move and getting into everything!

Dylan loves hanging out in Grandpa's chair...he even swiped the remote...I am sure Grandpa will have him watching westerns in no time! I see a lot of Bonanza in Dylan's future!

Mommy's sweet little boy! Christmas was a perfect day...can't wait till next year!

Dylan is 2 weeks old today!

Dylan is 2 weeks old today and has been adjusting well to life at home. He is awake and happy most of the morning...from about 8am to noon or so and then sleeps most of the afternoon. We have him on a pretty good schedule at night...at least where Matt and I can get some sleep in between feedings. He is eating well, and growing like a weed. He had his 2 week check up today. He has grown an inch and a quarter...up to 22 and 3/4" and is up to 9lbs (still not hit mommy's birth weight...but it won't be long!). His personality is coming out day by day...he loves to be held and snuggled...as long as you are moving...sit down and he will let you know! Oddly enough...he hates having his diaper changed...apparently a modest boy! Here are a few pictures from his first few days at home!

We will keep you all updated on Dylan's progress! I will update with pictures of his first Christmas soon!

Labor Day!

The doctor decided to induce me on my due date, December 15th, 2008, as he was afraid the baby would be too big if we waited past that. So at 5am on December 15th Matt and I had an appointment at the hospital to begin the whole process. I had been given advice to eat before we went because after I got there...ice chips would be it! So Matt and I got up extra early and headed to IHOP to have some breakfast before we headed to the hospital. This picture was taken hours before we left...this is me at 40 weeks! Ready to pop!

After we got there, I got hooked up to all the machines and they started pumping me full of fluid to stay hydrated. Around 7:30 my doctor came up to make sure I had started making good progress. He broke my water and then we played the waiting game.

Here we are a few hours into the process...by this time I had my epidural so I was feeling pretty good. I labored for a while without it, but after thinking about the possibility of having a C-section, I decided to get it just in case. That way I wouldn't have to have been put completely under in order for the doctor to get the baby out. Dylan was belly up instead of back up right up until about an hour before I delivered. Luckily I had a FANTASTIC labor and delivery nurse that was able to work with me to get him turned before I started pushing...saving me from having to have a C-section!

Finally at 6:29pm, after 12 hours of labor, Dylan James Mize made his appearance weighing in at 8lbs. 10oz. and was 21 inches long! I have to admit...I was shocked it was a boy. After about week 8 or 9 of my pregnancy I had convinced myself that it was a girl. Never a better surprise! Matt and I have been loving every minute we have spent with him and can't wait to see what happens with each day.

What a face! The outside world is so much different than where I was!

FINALLY! I know I am horrible at this!

So...I finally have time to post a bit...I know it has been WAY too long! I am hoping after the baby is born...while I know I won't have more time!!!...I will have a lot more information to share. My pregnancy has been pretty boring and other than the baby... and myself growing larger and larger...nothing much has changed. According to the doctor...the baby has decided that he or she is more than happy spending their time where they are, and are making no progress toward joining the world. I will be back at the doctor next Thursday to get an update on the baby's progress. Two weeks ago the doctor estimated the baby's weight at approximately 6 pounds...assuming the normal 1/2 pound weekly weight gain...we are looking at approximately 8 pounds if I go all they way to my due date...and from my appointment yesterday...I am pretty sure I will be going all they way!

Here I am at 38 weeks!
